How to plan for farm emergencies - Farm and Dairy

Harvest time is fast approaching and that can sure be an exciting and stressful time of year!!  Both excitement and stress can lead us to do things that might not be the most safe or we might not remember to make sure all safety precautions are in place.  Please click on this link to read an article on grain bin safety, some of these shocking statistics will hopefully remind us all to not do something we might regret later on.  Just because the weather might be turning or we are one load away from being done for the season, don't rush anything when it puts you or others in danger and be sure to ALWAYS have the proper safety procedures in place and reviewed with the crew on your farm!

All of us here at FGF wish for the most successful harvest season possible and pray for all of our safety throughout the season!

Maybe if we ignore covid it will go away ???
Me talking about it and making predictions sure hasn't worked!

So what did you do this spring and summer with your crops?  What was the planting date?  How much and when did you fertilize?  Did you mark the calendar as to when each different variety of corn silked and dented, or when the different varieties of soybeans flowered?  Did you give any alfalfa field an extra bonus of manure or spread fertilizer on all or some of the fields?

As we continue to harvest the alfalfa and begin to go after the corn and beans, we need to take a moment and look at the correlation of yields with these management practices.  Analyze and note what worked best on your farm.  Like in real estate, successfully growing crops, location, location, location makes all of the difference.  Use your agronomist and seedsman for advice, but use the results in your fields as the truth.

As the days get shorter and the work load gets larger, please remember to be safe!

Mill Expansion

We are growing to serve you better!
New mill planned for startup in Summer of 2021...

Construction has started on our new facility by our current grain bins on Spruce Court in Addison. This new mill will increase our capacity for feed production and improve the efficiency of bagging and bulk truck load out operations. With the purchase of new pellet making equipment we can expand our services and offer new quality products.

Plans for the existing Allenton mill are not finalized but we will continue to use it for grain storage, drying, roasting and grinding.

We are excited to move our business forward and we will post new pictures as this project progresses.
